Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse where the victim’s reality and perception is purposely distorted and undermined with a twisting of reality to cause doubt, confusion, and distrust of self. This is done to maintain power and control of the victim.
This type of abuse can be present in family dynamics, romantic relationships, friendships, and even in the workplace. A victim’s feelings are constantly invalidated, and their reality is placed into question so frequently that the victim begins to question their own perception.

This form of psychological abuse can be highly detrimental and destructive to a victim, causing it to be difficult to leave the situation because reality is constantly in question.

This type of abuse allows an abuser to more readily label the victim as “crazy” which furthers their ability to abuse without question because no one will believe the victim once this label has successfully been placed.
