The US has imposed 50% tax on India.
Therefore sending anything from India to the US through post is a temporary suspension from August 25.
Why is post service suspension ? What is the connection ? Let me explain.
At the beginning of August, the US imposed this high customs duty on India.
Because we continue to purchase crude oil from Russia.
Along with this, the US has also changed its import policies for parcels.
Previously, parcels sender no need to pay duty taxes for post.
Now, senders will be required to pay customs duty even for those items.
For example before the product worth up to 800 USD could be sent without any customs charge.
This exemption has now been cancelled.
This sudden tax increase has created confusion post service how much customs should be charged when sending parcels from India to the US.
Due to this uncertainty, airlines operating flights that carry mail to the US have started refusing to transport mail.
Consequently, India Post has decided to suspend most of its mail services to the US starting from August 25.
This was an official statement from India Post.
However, gifts, letters, documents, items worth up to 100 USD which are worth up to ₹9,000 (approx. 100 USD) can still be sent at no additional cost.
All other types of parcels from India to the US will be suspended.
Customers who have already booked parcels can claim a refund for the postage paid.
India Post deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to customers.
All efforts are being taken to resume full mail services to the US as soon as possible.
Similar temporary suspensions of parcel services to the US have also been reported by other countries like Austria, France, and Belgium.
