Hildesheim is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany with 101,693 inhabitants. It is in the district of Hildesheim, about 30 km (19 mi) southeast of Hanover on the banks of the Innerste River, a small tributary of the Leine River.

•The Marktplatz is a square located in the historic center of the city of Hildesheim. The square is a set of 11 buildings of architectural interest that constitute the heart of the city. Already existing in the early Middle Ages as a place of trade and exchange, between the 13th and 19th centuries it saw the rise of various buildings that embellished its 4 sides. Devastated and completely destroyed during the Anglo-Canadian bombing of 22 March 1945, it was rebuilt (increasing its surface area) for the first time during the 1950s and 1960s, with modern-style buildings that took the place of the ancient ones. Due to the strong determination of the inhabitants of Hildesheim, it was rebuilt again between 1983 and 1989, recreating the pre-war architectural backdrop, with copies of the wooden houses perfectly conforming to the originals.

•Hildesheim Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary or simply St. Mary's Cathedral, is a medieval Roman Catholic cathedral in the city centre of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony, Germany, that serves as the seat of the Diocese of Hildesheim. The cathedral has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1985, together with the nearby St. Michael's Church because of its unique art and outstanding Romanesque architecture.
