Utilising a material-science approach to the field of nanotechnology, nanomaterials have become a hot topic of research, with applications in day-to-day technology, in today’s world. A team of researchers at IITGN, led by Prof Kabeer Jasuja (Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering), has stumbled upon an unexpected phenomenon that will have significant implications on the existing protocols followed to synthesise 2D nanomaterials. Earlier, the common understanding regarding these protocols was that the organic solvent remains stable throughout the entire experimentation. Since most of the scientific community works on carbon, this discovery was hidden until now as there was no way to differentiate between the two sources of carbon, viz., parent material and organic solvent. The team is working with a viewpoint to make these nanomaterials and quantum dots more and more accessible to people in the future.
