Artificial Reef Dive Update

Clearwater Marine Aquarium transformed a former movie prop, Dr. Clay's houseboat from Dolphin Tale, into an artificial reef. A perfect structure to promote marine life, it was submerged off Clearwater Beach in April 2019. As part of ongoing conservation efforts, CMA's Dive Team routinely visits the barge. They monitor and document the progress on the reef. This includes conducting fish count surveys, documenting growth and removing debris. This maintenance and research is a crucial aspect of the conservation project. Most recently, the team saw significant algae and soft coral growth. There was a large variety of fish species active throughout the reef. Our team will continue this maintenance to ensure the success of the artificial reef!
