Fed-Now is a fast payment solution that has its origins in 2013, when the federal reserve asked financial institutions through a public consultation paper what would improve the U.S payments system, which resulted into a faster payment service necessity.
In 2019 they announced the plan to develop a faster payments solution called Fed-Now-24-7, and in 2020 they released a in depth-features explanation.
Fed-Now is an instant payment solution that is launching in phases from this July and it is a step towards its integration with a central bank digital currency.
Fed now uses the Iso-O-2022 standard and it offers basics transaction 24 hours a day 7 days a week, it allows institution to build on top of it but it also allows to create transaction reports which could indicate a low level of privacy, as well as it allows to set limits and blacklist accounts as it is controlled by a central entity.

Additionally is an institution first only solution so no-Bank entities like Pay-Pal cannot use the service without going through a bank first!
