Internally, I use auto-incrementing integers for performance, indexing, and efficient joins. Externally, I expose opaque identifiers like GUIDs to avoid ID enumeration, data scraping, and leaking business information.

This is not about database merging or exotic architectures. It is about separating internal performance concerns from external security and information exposure, and letting each identifier do what it is best at.
