A small paragraph would not suffice the talent within Pandit Omkar Gulvady. He is our most senior artist at the Festival of Tabla this year and we are grateful that he was able to come and share his knowledge and artistry with everyone. You will see Omkar accompanying some of our vocal artists as well as in our Grand Finale on Saturday night. Omkar is one of the most humble and exceptional Grand Master artists who has accompanied virtually every great artist in India and continues to be one of the most sought after vocal accompanists, even with the new generation. His illustrious career has spanned more than 7 decades. Omkar’s Tabla solos have thrilled audiences around the world and students continue to learn from him on a daily basis. We are fortunate to have Omkar amongst us for the Festival of Tabla 2022. Omkar is one of the senior-most disciples of the great Pandit Taranath Rao. Pankaj Mishra
Sarangi artist Pankaj Mishra born into a lineage of exceptional family of musicians, the son
of Sri Satyanarayan Mishra, Grandson of Pt. Mahadeo
Prasad Mishra, and great-grandson of Sarangi Virtuoso
Pt. Saraju Prasad Mishra, Pankaj was trained from an
early age by the renowned Sarangi
maestro Pt. Mahesh Prasad Mishra
of the Benaras Gharana. His dance
recital performances with Kathak
exponent Padmabhushan Pt. Birju
Maharaj, Pt. Chitres Das, Pt. Vijay
Shankar have been widely acclaimed. Vocal accompaniment with
Padmabibhusan Girija Devi, Bidushi
Purnima Chowdhury and others. He
has performed for Hollywood movies
and documentaries.
