European environment ministers on Wednesday (25/10) pledged to
phase out, as soon as possible, unsafe nuclear installations.
In their closing communique at the end of a pan-European
conference on the environment, more than 40 environment ministers
reiterated their commitment to shut down such stations. They also urged all nations with nuclear power stations to join "as soon as possible" the International Convention on Nuclear Safety. But the statement did not refer to the European Union's demand for the shutdown of Bulgarian reactor Kozloduy I, which resumed operations on October 6.
