Toastmaster’s speech on make connections through networking.

#networking #toastmasters #publicspeaking

It is level 3 project 2 l3p2 speech from innovative planning in pathways.

If you want to grow, or if you want to have 1 year of prosperity, Grow grains.
If you want to have 10 years of prosperity, Grow trees.
And if you want to have 100 years of prosperity, Grow people.

This is an ancient chinese proverb that best describes the importance of making relationships.

Good evening fellow TM and distinguished guests.

Have you ever attended any networking event other than Toastmasters. Do you want to know how you can maximize your time and your effort so that you can make your presence worthwhile?
Today I will share with you five tips on how to be a better networker than you already are. And for that I came up with an easy to remember acronym SMILE which spells smile.
The S stands for stance.
Stance means the way someone stands or the posture in which you stand.
Now when you go to any kind of networking event you are being noticed by everyone. So It's important to stand in a confidence posture so that people will come to you and talk to you.
When you stand with your arms crossed, your eyes down, you are using earpiece or headphone. It sends a NEGATIVE message that you are not open to network or approachable to people.
Let me share few tips for effective body language:
o Make eye contact
o Stand or sit in a straight posture
o Avoid your hands in pockets

The M stands for mannerism.
Mannerism means how you treat, behave or speak with others.
Watch your hands when you are speaking to people. Pointing your finger on someone can make them uncomfortable. So be aware of the actions you take with your body.
Suppose if you are hosting any event and interacting with a group of people. So if you are treating your audience well, replying them in proper way.
And being an audience if you are asking genuine questions then you both are respecting each other’s.
And after 10/20/ or 30 years. People might not remember you by your name, profession or by face. But they would remember the way you treated them.

I stand for interested.
Interested means curious about the thing or zeal to learn more.
Research has shown that when we pay more attention, we process information better and will remember it.
If you are going to any event in which you are passionate about or interested at. You will feel a sense of different energy all together.
Also, Being surrounded by people with similar interests will help you to reach or achieve your goal faster.

The L stands to listen.
Listening means paying attention to what others are saying.
Show the other person that you are listening attentively and understand what they are saying. For example, “so what you are saying is…”. This will show the other person that you are truly trying to understand them.
When you make the effort to listen to someone, they recognize your interest. They can tell that you’re invested in what they’re saying. If you are not listening, not making eye contact, or looking at your phone, the other person won’t trust you. Means they will not be open to network with you.
And also, If you want to become a better leader, you should become a better listener. A good team leader ensures everyone feels respected, which means they all feel heard.
The E stands for encourage.
Encourage means to give support or boost others.
Eg. If you are hosting any event, then you want to make sure that you encourage your guests for action. FOR example, Asking people to leave their name and the contact information so that we could follow up with them. Later we encourage them to come to our event. So it's really important for you to encourage them in some way. And in Toastmasters we encourage our guests to participate in table topics.
If someone is delivering their speech and you are listening to them. So after listening to their speech. You must share your views about how their speech was, what are their areas of strength. What they can improve on. This will encourage the speaker.
So basically, helping people achieve their goals is the fastest way to success, both theirs and yours.

So the next time that you go to a networking event remember your stance your mannerism be interested listen attentively and encourage them to take action.
And Most importantly don’t forget to smile.
