Unveiling Hawaii's Deceptive Shield Volcanoes: Exploring Rootless Shields

In Hawaii there are a number of active shield volcanoes such as Kilauea & Mauna Loa. However, there are also a number of shield volcano like vents which are up to 1,500 feet wide and 100 feet in height. Yet, these secondary vents did not originate as true shield volcanoes but rather are sort of imposters; they are "fake" shield volcano like vents known as rootless shields. This video will discuss how this geologic feature forms.
