Deputy Navdeep Nijjar joined HCSO as a communications officer in 2014. He became the third person from Houston’s Sikh community to become a deputy in 2015 when turbans and beards were permitted as part of the uniform. Since then, he has worked patrol as a field training officer and most recently, became an accident investigator.

On Thursday, April 15, Deputy Nijjar responded to the 12800 block of W Little York Rd. Michael Parag was riding his bicycle when he was fatally struck by a white Ford F-150 that fled the scene.
