Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Page Numbers Across Sheets in Excel: How to Use Group Mode.

Welcome back to the MrExcel podcast! In this episode, we're going to talk about a handy trick for setting up page numbers in your Excel workbooks. As many of you know, you can go into File, Page Setup, and choose to display page numbers in the footer of your printouts. However, if you have data on multiple worksheets and print them separately, the page numbers will only show as 1 of 1 for each sheet. But don't worry, I have a solution for you!

The trick is to put your workbook in Group mode before printing. To do this, simply hold down the Shift key and select all the sheets you want to print. Then, when you click the Print icon, the page numbers will automatically update to show the total number of pages in the printout. This is a great way to avoid confusion and make your printouts look more professional.

But Group mode is not just useful for page numbers. It can also be used to make changes to all sheets at once. For example, if you need to make Page Setup changes to all sheets, simply put them in Group mode and any changes you make will apply to all sheets. This saves you the time and effort of having to make the same changes to each sheet individually.

One thing to keep in mind when using Group mode is to remember to turn it off. If you forget and start working on the top sheet, any changes you make will apply to all sheets. So be sure to check the Title bar for a reminder that you're in Group mode. And if you need to exit Group mode, simply right-click on any sheet tab and choose Ungroup Sheets.
