Fans are remembering the work of Rob Reiner, a legendary filmmaker and actor who was found dead Sunday night with his wife, Michele.

Reiner was 78 years old, and Michele was 68.

His directing credits included classics from several genres and includes "Stand By Me," which was filmed right here in Oregon.

About eight years ago, Reiner told fans that "Stand By Me" was his favorite of all his films.

It was filmed in Brownsville in 1985, with the story set in the late fifties. The film was only Reiner's third directing job, and he cast the four lead actors himself.

During filming, Reiner spent weeks with the young cast in Oregon, working on their acting and going on adventures in the Willamette Valley.

KATU interviewed Reiner in 1987 for the release of “The Princess Bride.” At that time he also talked about filming "Stand By Me," and his concern that it was going to be too rainy in Oregon.

Tim Williams, Executive Director of Oregon Film, said Reiner made movies that affected everyone in some way. He remembered the impact he had on the film industry in the state.

“‘Stand By Me’ was a good example of the sort of mid-eighties sort of dramatic comedies that were being made, several of which came here to Oregon," said Williams.

"He was very much an advocate of on-location shooting early on in his career. And same thing with ‘Princess Bride,’ he went over to the UK and actually made a tiny movie in the UK because of what he needed for it,” Williams continued.

Stand By Me was nominated for an Academy Award for best director among other categories.

Police took Rob’s son, Nick Reiner, into custody Sunday night after the couple was found dead in their Brentwood home with stab wounds.

A source says Nick was seen having an argument with his dad at a holiday party on Saturday.
