Judy: Hi, it’s Judy from AppleToolBox.

Judy: I love to play YouTube videos as background music when I’m working. I choose one of my playlists and then just let it go.

Judy: But recently, I’ve notice that when I try to do other things, like check my email, chat with friends on Messages, or even play a few rounds of Solitaire that YouTube just stops playing.

Judy: And same goes for when I press the sleep button—the sound just cuts off.

Judy: So after a little research, I’ve discovered a few ways to get YouTube to work they way it used to.

Judy: And I’m sharing those with you today.

Judy: Since I don’t have a YouTube Red subscription, it’s a guessing game as to which trick works today. So if one of these tips doesn’t work for you, try another.

Judy: The first thing I learned is to install a few different browser options on your iPhone. We all have Safari but consider downloading lesser known browsers like Dolphin, Opera Mini, Mercury, and any others you like or want to try.

Judy: I like using Dolphin and so far it works in the same way as Safari used to.

Judy: Open Dolphin and then go to YouTube. Search for the video you want to play in the background, select it, and start playing it. Once it plays, hit the home button. YouTube automatically stops the music, so next swipe up Control Center. Navigate to the music player and hit play. Finally, go back to your home screen and the music should continue playing.

Judy: Now your music should continue to play when texting, emailing, or using any other app.

Judy: If this tip didn’t work for you, go through these steps again. Sometimes it takes more than once to work.

Judy: Another way to get YouTube videos playing in the background is by using a third-party app like YTBPlayer or Musi. The major downside of these third-party app is periodic advertisements.

Judy: But they work and currently play your YouTube content in the background.

Judy: When using these apps, make sure you wait until the advertisement finishes and the video you want to listen to starts playing before you press the Home Button to look at other apps.

Judy: Also, sometimes there’s a brief bit of silence after pressing Home and transitioning between the active app and working in the background.

Judy: And, if the music cuts off either return to the app and press play to continue OR swipe up control center and tap the play button.

Judy: One trick that often helps is to delete any YouTube apps from your iPhone, including YouTube, YT Kids, and YouTube Music. That way, any browser or app cannot automatically redirect you to the You Tube app.

Judy: Finally, if you aren’t interested in looking at other apps but want to play YouTube content with your screen sleeping, there’s a browser that can help.

Judy: It’s called Night Web Browser by Alex. And it lets you dim your screen until it’s completely dark. You cannot exit the browser to do other things, but this app lets you play YouTube videos and turns off the screen so you’re not draining your battery or calling attention to yourself with a big, bright screen.

Judy: Night Web Browser isn’t free but it’s a modest 99 cents.

Judy: Outside of joining YouTube Red, these are currently the best options for listening to YouTube media in the background. If you have another method that works, please share it with all of us!

Judy: Well, that just about wraps up this video.
