Goldi’s Last Trip: A Farewell to Our 1988 Volvo 240

After a year of living in the wild, our lives have changed in ways we never imagined. We've learned to adapt, simplify, and embrace a life less encumbered by excess. One of the most important lessons we've come to understand is that owning less isn't a sacrifice—it's freedom. As we've settled into this new rhythm, we've come to see that all we truly need is just enough for the life we're living now.

Which brings us to Goldi, our trusty Volvo 240 from 1988. For years, Goldi was more than just a car. She was a reliable companion on countless journeys, each road trip embedded with memories of adventure, laughter, and growth. With her timeless boxy shape, dependable engine, and that familiar hum of the highway beneath her wheels, Goldi became a symbol of stability in our ever-changing lives.

But times have changed. Cocotte, our sturdy Land Rover, has proven herself to be all we need for our continued life of exploration. She’s rugged enough for the wild and spacious enough to carry what we have—minimal as it is. And then there’s Angèle, who now also has her own Beetle, a car that perfectly fits her personality and needs. With these two vehicles serving us well, we’ve realized it’s time to let Goldi go.

It’s bittersweet to say goodbye. Goldi has been a part of our story for so long, a steadfast partner through thick and thin. But in this new phase of our lives, we’ve learned that holding on to what no longer serves us, even when it’s something beloved, only weighs us down. Goldi deserves a new chapter—one where she can be appreciated and used the way she once was with us.

So, this is Goldi’s last journey with us, but it’s also the beginning of something new for her and for us. We’ll carry the memories she’s given us, but we’re ready to move forward, lighter and more focused on what truly matters: the experiences ahead, not the possessions behind.
