During my time as a student of Mr. Walbert, I filled four big manuscript books with his arrangements (he would give me photocopies from his file cabinets and my mother and I would glue the pages into the book). This was in the 70s, and I still have them and treasure them. Of course, I thought that those four notebooks would be the extent of my collection, and they were, until I started putting some of my videos of Mr. Walbert’s arrangements on YouTube. I was contacted my someone who was also a student (years after me) who had some pieces, and would I like to exchange and share what I have? Of course I jumped at the chance. Here’s one of the “new to me” arrangements that came from that exchange. Full disclosure, I didn’t know this song either, but it’s a fun one. It was written by the bass in the Vaughan Quartet, Adger Pace. Mr. Walbert was the pianist for the quartet, which also included his father. The bass carries the melody in the chorus, of course, with the higher voices echoing.
