Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Thangjam, Tuensang organized cultural day at School Campus in Tuensang with Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang as the special guest on September 7.

The event observed with the theme ‘reminiscing traditional culture and practices’ was attended by students and teachers in their colorful traditional attires.

A full traditional welcome of the special guest was done by the cultural troupe comprising of students of GHSS, Thangjam.

The programme was chaired by Rishilemla and invocation was spoken by Hechila Chang. Meanwhile students of class XII led the gathering to sing their school anthem followed by a welcome address from Imkongsenla Sangtam, Principal, GHSS Thangjam.

Students walked the ramp showcasing traditional attires of and modern outfits, a reminiscence of the past and present. The Khiamniungan girls of the school demonstrated the making of cotton into thread after which a folktale drama competition was held among the four houses of the school. In which, the students performed the legendary love story of Jina and Etiben.

Later, vote of thanks was delivered by ZachisatoTetseo and benediction by Selongpila Sangtam.

After the formal programme, the special guest inaugurated the drinking water and hand washing station of the school.

The highlight of the day was the house-wise outdoor indigenous competition of folk dance, top spinning, fire making, tug-of-war and bamboo climbing among the students.
