Nemours Children's Health offers cutting edge diagnostic procedures and treatment for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) such as Transnasal Esophagoscopy (TNE). TNE is a new procedure offered to children 10 and older. It allows children with eosinophilic esophagitis and other diseases to have endoscopies without anesthesia. This means it is much faster, less expensive, and safer. Nemours Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in the Southeast to offer the procedure.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach). It occurs when an inappropriate immune reaction to food causes a type of white blood cell, the eosinophil, to increase in the esophagus. The elevated number of eosinophils cause injury to the esophagus resulting in inflammation. This damage may make eating difficult or uncomfortable, and create other medical issues. We’re redefining children’s health by looking beyond and improving children’s health where it starts — at home, in the community and anywhere you find children.
Nemours Children's Health. Well beyond medicine.
