Bridget Lane is a weaver of contemporary tapestries, working on a high warp frame in the Gobelin technique. Her work is a response to the seemingly mundane, a way of reinterpreting the world. Seen through a different lens, these hidden gems that we often brush past are transformed and given a new sense of life, of emotion, of structure and colour. They become a visual representation of the stories that surround us.

Intensity of colour is an important aspect of the work, and Bridget is continually exploring how a visually simple form can be enhanced with divergent colour tones. In some pieces, she varies the widths or direction of weft marks to explore textural changes, which results in a more concentrated colour thereby enhancing details of an image.

In Heallreaf 4, Bridget exhibits, ‘Cherry Blossom’. The delicate blossoms of the cherry tree are the first signs that the warmth of spring is here to stay, while winter makes a quiet retreat. With pops of pink and white, soft clouds of blooms billow across the landscape. Their arrival stands for renewal as well as the transience of life; as cool winds can ruffle the heavy flower heads sending petals swirling.

While gazing up into a tree in full bloom, the cares of the world can slip from your shoulders. The light of the sun finds its way through the branches and dapples the leaves. Hope is here.

Through her work, Bridget invites us to embark on a journey of discovery into a woven world of shapes and forms and to reassess the art of tapestry.
