I’ve belted this song in the car so many times, hoping this time it would stick. This time I’d fight and stay standing. And this is it. I believe I’ve waited long enough.

Covering Walk because learning to live out loud this past year has been nothing short of a miracle. After years of struggling with back and neck pain, and all the nerve damage associated with Ankylosing Spondylitis, we found a treatment that seemed to be working. The worst part of AS has always been the fatigue from having inflammation that’s comparable with having 24/7/365 flu! But this new biologic we tried must have been working. And one random day in April 2022, it was enough. Like a light switch. My energy was flowing again, after dumping 50lbs rapidly. I was like a newborn, weak from having muscles not the right size from my body. And puttering around in the sun with the chipmunks was what I needed to start taking steps toward finding my strength. But apparently a Lymphoma scare, followed by a full on body investigation to find any root cause of my illness wasn’t enough for this girl! 2022 had more in store for me. Physically, I continued to stay as active as possible, by volunteering at Hunter Hollow. Bunnies are magical. Through their need, I’ve been able to push and test my limits without any repurcussions. As Annie-Laurie has observed, a lot of what I do could be called “puttering.” Seeing empty bowls and filling them. Playing with the bunnies, but then she just needs an extra two hands to turn a half hour task into a six minute one. But it makes me feel valuable and needed. It gives me a place to go with minimal health risk due to autoimmune disease and cancer My presence has been serendipitous on many occasions, even when my body is limited. And it gives me energy for other things.

I know the US is talking about banning TikTok, but without that community, I don’t know where I’d be. They brought me out and took me in. The TikTok music community told me that my voice was worth hearing. I’ve written three songs. My playing is so much better for them being present with me. TikTok offers some unique opportunities for interacting at the moment. And I am grateful. And I’m trying to follow all my friends here, too.
