Heading West along Michigan Ave., we enter East Downtown Dearborn, home to many fine restaurants and great shopping. We'll see Art Deco and Georgian architecture mix with 1920's corner stores and 1970's strip malls. It is truly a hodge-podge of style, but uniquely inviting. Dearborn's downtown area is split in two by the Southfield freeway and Rouge River. (We'll have to visit the West side in a later video.) Aside from being the birthplace of Henry Ford, Dearborn is known for the largest concentration of middle-eastern immigrants in the US. It's great to see how cities absorb different cultures from around the world and create these unique little pockets for us to visit close to home. You'll notice this cultural influence as we make our way through town. I spotted a coffee house I am eager to try, so I will be heading back again soon.
