A song of desperation delivered with exquisite beauty, "O Mio Babbino" is a plea from a daughter to her father, Gianni Schicchi. She is in love, you see, but her beloved's family is wealthy and well bred, and hers is not.

Tensions have hit a boiling point. Her boyfriend's relatives sneer at the low-born Schicchi, belittling him to his face. But Schicchi cannot walk away — not now, not after his daughter sings that she would rather die than not marry her beloved.
