“Lagiacrus” is a Leviathan introduced in Monster Hunter 3, renowned for its mastery of aquatic combat and its commanding presence as one of the series’ most iconic monsters. Resembling a blend between a crocodile and a sea serpent, it possesses a long neck, powerful limbs, and a sinuous body covered in sapphire-blue shell plating. A pair of sharp brown horns jut from its skull, while its spine features three pairs of dermal spikes that shimmer with light when it channels electricity. The underside of its body contrasts with a paler, earthy tone, and its horizontally flared tail culminates in a fin that aids in swimming. Rows of jagged, shell-like protrusions inside its jaws form a second ridge of "teeth," giving its bite a crushing strength.

Known for its affinity with Thunder, it charges electricity through its back spikes, which glow white when fully powered. This ability intensifies when enraged, as crackling energy visibly builds in its gaping maw. While primarily a Thunder user, Lagiacrus also demonstrated control over the Water element in past underwater environments, though this trait now only emerges during specialized underwater encounters. When exposed to prolonged sunlight on land, its vibrant scales dry and dull to a grayish-blue hue, and its spikes brown—only to be restored once submerged again.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s the only monster that can be fought in an actual underwater environment—specifically in its nest. Although standard attacks are ineffective in this submerged arena, hunters can damage it using environmental hazards and specialized Slinger pods. Upon being staggered, hunters may Clutch Claw onto it similarly to mounting, dealing additional damage to targeted parts. Its iconic lion-like roars remain intact, some integrated into its attack animations. It has notable turf wars with Rathalos and Uth Duna, and is also subject to energy-draining attacks from Arkveld, reflecting its status as a powerful but vulnerable apex predator in this new ecosystem. Blocking its lunging bite can trigger a power clash, providing hunters with a critical opening against this aquatic menace.
