Vintage Apple 1 Antique Computer

Vintage Apple1 computer I purchased the Apple 1 microcomputer in this video from Adam Schoolsky in 1994. This is my second Apple 1 and a really nice addition to the LCF Bugbook Microcomputer Historical Museum Collection. Adam worked with Steve Wozniak on several occasions and Adam told me he was the second employee of the Apple Computer Company . I do not know what capacity he worked in for the Apple Company however it is documented in Steve Wozniak's book "iWoz" that Adam was closely associated with Mr. Wozniak as Steve describes how he called Adam to help pull off a hoax at the first West Coast Computer Fair in San Francisco (1977). Steve had Adam help write a fake brochure on a none existent Product called the Zaltair Computer - this was a joke on Ed Roberts company that produced the Mitts Altair 8800 Microcomputer. They printed 8,000 of the fake data and comparison sheets and put all of them out at the Fair. It even fooled Steve Jobs who made the comment after seeing the Zaltair information that the Apple 2 did not look to bad in the list of computers compared to the Zaltair. I have made a short video of the Zaltair Spoof as Adam sent me one of the original Zaltair data sheets along with many other great early Apple information and artifacts.

Wozniak produced a really great design in the Apple 1. Steve Wozniak designed a microcomputer system that used a minimum number of integrated circuits (IC's) and was a working computer -- you did have to add some power supply transformers , keyboard, and a display device ( usually a TV monitor) to the Apple 1. Wozniak also wrote the Basic program and I think he mostly hand assembled it and of course he wrote the monitor program as well. The Apple 1 and 2 are his creations and they set the microcomputer business off and running. The Apple 1 did not sell in large numbers - it is reported only 200 were made . Most folks had no idea what to use it for or how build it into a working system. Some computer stores purchased the Apple 1 board and made it into a working system with keyboard and other needed parts - put it in a wooded case and sold it ready to go. The reason for the low numbers is Steve Wozniak realized the limitations of the Apple 1 as soon as they started to market it and designed the Apple 2 to overcome the limitations of the Apple 1 - added a good many new and useful features. The Apple 2 sold for many years in upgraded versions very well and made put the Apple Computer Company in the forefront for many years. In fact the folks running the Apple Company even tried to kill the Apple 2 by making an Apple 3 - for several years the Apple 3 was promoted but had many problems and was a commercial dog. I don't think Wozniak had much to do with the Apple 3. When the Apple 3 was finally pulled off the market the Apple 2 was still selling very well. I have heard that less then 100,000 Apple 3 were sold and most or all never worked as planned.
