For any copyright, please send me a message.  Joe Cole has revealed why he took the gamble to walk away from Peaky Blinders before he’s about to lead his own gang in Sky Atlantic’s Gangs of London.   The 31-year-old is picking up quite the reputation as the go-to hard man. Though, you haven’t seen anything quite like his next protagonist, Sean Wallace – the London mob boss who’s out to avenge his father’s death.  Jumping into another ‘gang drama’ after Peaky Blinders wasn’t Joe’s plan. Far from it.   ‘When I received this, literally I read the title and I thought, “no,”’ he grinned when Metro.co.uk caught up with him earlier this year.   But Gareth Evans’ (director of the cult hit The Raid) spectacular Gangs of London was simply irresistible.   ‘I read the first episode and a synopsis and I was like, “This could be something special.”  ‘I’ve spent the last few years turning down gang related shows because when a show does well you get offered quite a lot of them. I actually chose to leave Peaky Blinders because I wanted to explore new avenues and new characters and new stories.’  In Gangs of London, Joe is at the heart Sky’s most ambitious drama since the days of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. Sean may be young but he is ruthless, reckless and unhinged in his pursuit to find the men who killed his father Finn Wallace, the kingpin of London’s drug scene.   It’s extraordinary. Fight sequences as epic as any battle in Game of Thrones (but set in a pub – really) blistering twists at every turn and London has never looked so epic or blood-thirsty. You might recognise Joe from Peaky Blinders for now, but Gangs of London will be what he’s remembered for.   ‘With Peakly Blinders I never really got out of the gates in that role,’ he stressed. ‘It’s Cillian’s show really. This show is more ensemble, it follows characters on a deep level.   ‘So for me it’s really an opportunity to show what I can do and for the rest of the cast, what they can do.’  ‘I grew up on gang shows,’ he continued. ‘I grew up on The Wire. The Wire was my favourite shows, Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos are other ones.   ‘The problem for me is they’re the seminal pieces of television, right? They’re also American, right?
