Steve Wallace holds a profound and irreplaceable place in the history of the High Fives Foundation. As our very first athlete and first-ever grant recipient, Steve helped shape the heart, culture, and mission of High Fives long before the organization became a national leader in adaptive sports, spinal cord injury recovery, and life-changing injury support.
After a life-altering skiing injury in 2008, Steve met founder Roy Tuscany, forming a friendship that sparked what would evolve into the High Fives Foundation. In 2010, Steve became the first High Fives athlete—a milestone that marked the beginning of a mission built on hope, resilience, community, and human connection.
Steve brought unmatched humor, warmth, and authenticity into every room he entered. He made the CR Johnson Healing Center feel like home. He supported new adaptive athletes navigating their recovery journeys. And he showed everyone around him that healing is not just physical—it's emotional, relational, and deeply human.
His influence lives on in the culture of High Fives: in the way athletes lift one another up, in the community that surrounds them, and in the victories celebrated on snow, trails, water, and wheels. Steve Wallace helped define what it means to rebuild, reconnect, and move forward after a life-changing injury.
As we honor Steve’s life, we honor a legacy built on courage, compassion, joy, and belief in possibility.
Thank you, Steve, for being the first High Five.
Your spirit continues to guide this community forward.
A celebration of life for Steve Wallace will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Cottonwood Restaurant in Truckee, California, from 1–3 p.m. Doors open at noon.
