As PHP is loosely-typed programming language. The variable type is not required to mention when it is created. The value assign to the variable define the variable type.

PHP has eight different data types grouped under three categories.


1. Pre-Defined Data Types.

Pre-defined data types are integer, float, string, and boolean.

Variable contains whole number is called integer variable.

Variable contains fractional number is called float variable.

Variable contains alphabets, numbers, and special characters in single or double quotes is called string variable.

Variable contains either true or false is called boolean variable.


2. User-Defined Data Types.

User-defined data types are array and object.

Variable contains a group of similar or dis-similar values is called array variable.

Variable declares as a type of class is called object variable.


3. Special Data Types.

Special data types are null and resource.

Variable declare only but no value assign to it contains empty space and is called null variable.

Variable contains reference to external resources is called resource variable.
