It is normal for mountains and hills to crumble and come down as landslides; they happen all the time as part of the natural weathering process. However, their incidence has increased over the years. This is in part due to man-made activities. There are villages located all over the hills, and to connect them, hills are being cut to build roads. More hills are being cut to widen the existing roads. Hills are also being cut to make space for construction activities. As more hills are cut, more landslides happen.

Likewise, a cloudburst is also a natural phenomenon and happens from time to time. However, their instances too have increased several times. What used to be an unusual phenomenon has become more common. More and more cloudbursts are causing floods and devastation.

Obviously, the climate has changed for the worse, and human activities have accelerated it. We have to brace for these, as climate-related devastations will continue to happen at an accelerated pace. We must realize our role and act fast to mitigate it, or else nature will be unforgiving.

Will hills be cut to make new roads or widen the existing ones? Yes, they will.
Will hills be cut to make land for construction? Yes, they will.
Will new buildings be made on the riverbanks? Yes, they will.
Will new hotels, resorts, and homestays come up on the hills? Yes, they will.
Will trees be allowed to be cut illegally? Yes, they will.
Will deliberate forest fires continue to be set? Yes, they will.
Will new hydroelectric projects be built on rivers, rivulets, or streams? Yes, they will.
Will forests be cleared for residential, official, or industrial projects? Yes, they will.
Will hills be vertically cut instead of step-cut? Yes, they will.

What will change? Nothing and everything. Nothing on our part will change, but everything we do will change our lives—mostly for the worse. Ultimately, it will depend on one's luck. Some will escape suffering, while others may stand to lose everything. Those who lose everything may not be at fault. Then, who is?
