While working at IH during the day, John Lingenfelter's nights and weekends were
dedicated to his true passion—racing and engine building. In the 1970s, Lingenfelter
gained recognition as a formidable drag racer, competing in various classes and consistently pushing the boundaries of what was possible in terms of engine performance. Lingenfelter's approach to engine building was marked by a commitment to precision and a willingness to explore innovative solutions. In 1973, John Lingenfelter founded Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE), a

One of the landmark achievements of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering was the development of twin-turbo systems for Chevrolet Corvettes. Lingenfelter's twin-turbo Corvettes became legendary for their incredible power and speed, setting new benchmarks in the world of street-legal performance.

In the 1990s, Lingenfelter's twin-turbo C4 Corvettes became known for their record-breaking top speeds.
