Описание к видео Newly Discovered Hop in Maryland is Making Headlines | Maryland Farm & Harvest

There’s a new hop in town! The Monocacy hop is one of a kind and grows so well in Maryland’s climate that it’s making both hop farmers and brewmasters very hoppy!

When Ray Eidiger and his wife bought their Frederick County farm in 1968 they discovered it conveyed with a menacingly wild plant - but Ray knew it well - since he grew up in Oregon and had harvested beer hops as a kid. 50 years later and that hop plant is still just as wild but is now one of Maryland’s oldest - and newest discoveries. A hop plant that is genetically distinct and is truly a Maryland only hop! Maryland University Extension Agent Brian Butler tells the tale of how the hop was discovered while his team harvests the latest crop, then follow the fresh hops to the Heavy Seas Brewery as brewmaster Chris Leonard brews up a special Altbier that showcases the Monocacy Hops taste and versatility. This is a great discovery for Maryland Hop growers and brew masters. After many years of growing hops ill suited to Maryland's climate, here is a classic hop that has adapted and hopes to bring sustainable hop production to Maryland.
