For four days, my brother and I explored Yakushima, the island that inspired Princess Mononoke.

From lush forests filled with thousand-year-old yakusugi cedars to hidden waterfalls and quiet beaches, this trip reminded me why Japan is so unique.

In this video, we hike to Shiratani Unsuikyo, meet wild Yaku macaques, reach the Jōmon Sugi, and end our adventure discovering a hidden shrine in a sea cave before catching the ferry home.

Yakushima truly feels timeless, part jungle, part mountain, part ocean... all magic.
