The Surfdales are a one-man instrumental surf band from Katwick Beach (Netherlands) by Danny Ramirez, who's also the guitar player for stonerdoom band Toner Low and in the past played music ranging from garage rock to black metal in bands such as The Mad Löggers, Slaughter Towen and classic cover songs on punk rock band Only Entertainment. The Surfdales took shape in the first half of July 2012, when the first song Montañita was written. Later in July and in September 2012 two more followed, and between mid September 2016 and mid August 2017 four tunes got written. Finally in March 2018 the track listing for this first release by The Surfdales was completed with two more songs. The music of The Surfdales is inspired by the traditional Californian 1961-1964 surf sound with some hints to the instrumental music of around the same period as played by UK band The Shadows. Because there’s 1000s of instrumental surf songs out there and it therefore is impossible to know what’s been done and what not and while writing and recording I sometimes wondered ‘well, I’m pretty sure some surf band came up with this chord progression and lead melody decades ago’, I just recorded what I heard in my head without caring for possible similarities to existing surf tunes.

Recorded in August 2017, and March and April 2018 at the Ramirez Recording Room. Used were a 4-track Yamaha MT100II cassette recorder, Audacity music editor, a dark red electric Pearl guitar (model ‘Export Standard’), Fender strings (.042-.009 inches), a 1mm Dunlop pick and a Technics sx-KN3000 keyboard.

Mixed in April and May 2018 at the Ramirez Recording Room using Audacity music editor.
