Don't fall for the PayPal security code text scam for Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp or other platforms, where scammers will ask you for a one-time code or a 6-digit code or an 8-digit code that you received on your phone. Any verification codes sent to your phone from PayPal or any website at all is only meant for you and you alone. You should never give any confirmation or verification codes received on your phone to any other person who asks for it. Never never never. They likely initiated the code to be sent to you so that they could then ask you for it. Then, if you give it to them, they can perhaps get into your PayPal account, something that you obviously never want to happen.

The PayPal security code text scam has been around for a long time, just as other confirmation and verification code scams have been as well. The idea with these scams is that scammers want your money, as you might expect. Never give anyone your password or any codes that are sent to your phone or email. Those codes will always and only be for you. It's important to know this.

I saw that people were searching around online for PayPal security code text scam in late January 2024. If someone tells you that they want you to give them a code that you received on their phone... no matter what they say, whether it be "I want to make sure you're not a scammer" or whatever else... don't believe them. Scammers will employ plenty of tricks to try to make you think what they are asking you to do makes sense.
