WHY WE SHOULD RETHINK HOW WE HAVE SEX, STARTING FROM CONSENT | Isotta Rossoni | TEDxLegnano

Sex appears to be all-pervasive in our Western societies. Relatedly, the notion of consent has gained
traction thanks to the relentless activism of feminist groups in many countries worldwide. However,
what consent means in practice in the context of our sex lives, in our sexual encounters with our
regular or casual partners, isn’t always clear or straightforward. In this talk, Isotta Rossoni,
criminologist, researcher and activist seeks to urge people to talk about sex and consent without fear
of feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. She argues that by brushing thorny questions about sex
and consent under the carpet, we are not simply censoring ourselves, but we are also paving the way
for misunderstandings, negative experiences and even violence. Rossoni’s TEDx talk is a call to let
go of our social constraints and open up safe, respectful discussions around sex and consent with
our partners, friends and why not, even with complete strangers. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
