Delay | Episode 3: Analog Chorus

In this episode of Positive Feedback, we talk about how short, changing delay times are used to create a range of modulation effects.

Effects pedals occupy a unique place in the history of recorded music. Their function is similar to that of the outboard effects units found in a recording studio, and many pedals owe their design principles to the outboard effects units which came before them. They offer studio quality effects in a smaller footprint and with simplified controls, making them ideal for musicians who want to augment the tone of their instrument at a moment’s notice. However, musicians who have no knowledge of the historical and technological inspirations for an audio effect’s design may not understand what their favorite stompbox does to their instrument’s signal. The purpose of this project is to produce a series of videos that provide musicians, producers, and engineers with historical and technical details about popular analog effects pedals. Viewers of these videos should come away with a better understanding of why certain effects pedals sound the way they do, allowing them to make better informed decisions when making music with these devices.
