Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. And today, we're talking about Gen-Y Offset Gooseneck for your towing prep package on our 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Now, this will be a great way if you wanna get a little bit more turning radius from your trailer, especially if you're worried about your trailer making contact with the back of our cab. That's gonna be great for situations if you have anything on the back of here like a horse trailer. So let's check it out. This system's designed to work with Chevy short bed trucks.
So how that works is we're gonna have our ball mount. This is offsetted by five inches towards your tailgate. So when you are hauling anything and you're worried about making contact with your cab, this is gonna help alleviate some of those worries. Now, it's always gonna depend on what you're hauling too. So if you're hauling anything like a horse trailer with a sleeper cab in the front of it, that's something you might be worried about, especially if you have a shorter bed like we have today.
But that's not a guarantee that it's not gonna make contact, so just make sure you check what your turning radius is already. Now, one of the first things you probably notice is we don't have any safety chain loops on here, and that's because it's not included with our kit. Now, if you already have some, because you tried out just a standard ball mount and you found out you didn't have enough clearance, then you can use those with this. Well, if you don't have any on hand, you can find some of those on our website. Installing this is fairly straightforward, all you're gonna have to do is drop this down into that center puck.
And at the bottom of it, we're gonna have a ball bearing system that locks it down into place. And to release it, you just pull on this rod right here and lift it up. You're probably curious about the back two spaces. These actually don't lock into place. What they're there for is to help prevent this from rotating around, giving it more of a secure fit.
But to remove it, all you gotta do is release that pin, pull it up, and just lift it out of that puck. (gooseneck clanking) There's that ball bearing I was talking about. And the locking mechanism at the top, you'll notice when I turn it around, it'll pop out, securing that lock. As you saw, taking it out is pretty easy, and putting it right back in is just as, and that's because we do have that prep package. You don't have to worry about doing any cleanup afterwards, it just goes right in and out. As for the size of the ball and its weight capacity, this ball mount is gonna be 2 5/16, so make sure that your coupling is compatible with that. And it's gonna have a weight capacity of up to 25,000 pounds and it's gonna have a vertical weight capacity of up to 6,000 pounds. So what all that means is the 25,000 pounds is gonna be your towing weight. So when you're pulling anything behind you, that's gonna be that. As for the vertical weight, that's gonna be the amount of pressure that's being applied over the top of that, and that's because we do have that offset of five inches. And underneath where the offset is, this is only being suspended. So with all that pressure being applied, things could get damaged if you go over the weight capacity. Now, going off weight capacities too, always ensure when you are loading this up that your bed is compatible with that as well, and go from the lowest rated component. Overall, this is gonna be a great option for you, mainly because it's gonna be one of the few options that's gonna fit our vehicle today where we do have that factory prep package built in and we want that offset too. So if you want both of those, there's not gonna be a whole lot of options out there that will accommodate that. That is just a look at our Gen-Y Offset Gooseneck on the back of our 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Thanks for watching.
