King's Speech LIVE: Labour's plan to 'turbo boost' housebuilding to be unveiled in State Opening of Parliament
The first King’s Speech under the new Labour government is set to be delivered during the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday morning. Labour expected to tackle smoking, housing and national rail with 35 new laws.
Sir Keir Starmer has said Labour will “take the brakes off Britain” when it unveils its first King’s Speech on Wednesday.
The new government is set to present a “packed” legislative agenda focused on improving living standards by driving economic growth.
The address is expected to contain more than 35 Bills and draft Bills involving worker's rights, creating jobs, accelerating the building of houses and infrastructure as well as reviving Rishi Sunak's smoking ban.
The speech - which will begin in earnest after the King's arrival at 11.20am - will be one of the chunkiest in recent history, second only to 2022 when the Government put forward 38 Bills.
