Yuzo Koshiro is a Japanese video game music composer, arranger, programmer and president of the game development company Ancient. He is often regarded as one of the most influential innovators in chiptune and video game music, producing soundtracks across a wide range of genres throughout his career. His Streets of Rage soundtracks reflect the influence of the house and techno saturating Tokyo clubs like Yellow in the early ’90s, and have profoundly influenced artists such as Flying Lotus, Ikonika, Just Blaze, Joker, Fatima Al Qadiri and many more. He’s joined by Motohiro Kawashima, a renowned composer who was Koshiro’s collaborator on Streets of Rage 2 and 3 and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, not to mention the first official staff member at Ancient. Their collaborative work showcased Kawashima’s passion for a harder techno sound, and his recent soundtrack for Necrosoft Games, Oh Deer, showed that more than 20 years later he still manages to work contemporary dance influences into his own unique take on the world of video game music with ease. In this session they’re joined by the multitalented Tom Scholefield, AKA Konx-om-Pax, on visuals. Tom has done artwork for Jamie Lidell, Underground Resistance and Oneohtrix Point Never, set up his own studio, established the Display Copy label and released his own music on Planet Mu. As part of the touring Diggin’ In The Carts project, Konx-Om-Pax reworks the visuals of Streets of Rage 2 & 3.
