Here it is...the site of the struggle for the last piece of Barbaros! We've assembled Barbaros's entire body, and all that's left is whatever goes on the very top part of that coffin-shaped vault we've stored Barbaros's pieces in. Zack has arrived at the central spire of the haunted castle, and it seems pretty empty. There seems to be the treasure chest--the coast suspiciously clear--alongside a frog, a pull chain...
...and a huge gaping entryway, adorned by sculptures of a freaky shrieking woman, blocked by giant spiked barricades waiting to be broken down. That doesn't look good, and Zack definitely doesn't want to see what's behind that.
Nevertheless, as a pirate, Zack's going to have to go for that treasure chest. That triggers the invisible pianist at the top, summoning a huge red version of those iron maiden monsters we've been seeing all throughout this castle. It gets worse--she's accompanied by the classic blue one and a small yellow one. Zack has imprisoned one such D.III in "Bell Tower of Requiem" and snuck by another in "Mad Science," and now, he'll have to take them on directly. Known as S.D.III-A, -B, and -C, respectively, they're, as Barbaros puts it, the last line of defense of the castle, so they're not going down without a fight.
These three will go after Zack from anywhere in the room, as opposed to the myopic range of the D.III's we've seen before. They also have the ability to sink into the ground and pop up from anywhere they want. Luckily, the S.D.III's won't attack Zack if he gets too close to one. They follow pre-programmed routines, and you can bet Zack will need to take advantage of that quirk in order to survive.
They start their Zack attack by sending out various creatures and monsters (and acid rain) against Zack, and Wiki is more than helpful here. (Then again, when hasn't Wiki been essential?) After the bats, acid rain, snakes, and Curse Ghosts, the S.D.III's figure that throwing enemies at Zack isn't going to work, and they get to direct attacks, trying to suck Zack into their internal abyss like what happened with the treasure chest. At first, I thought this was where the Frog Bombs come into play, but I was wrong--you're supposed to continue to survive.
Presumably, the S.D.III's can't all vacuum at once--in order to suck in a specific object, no more than two can suck them up at a time. Thus, Zack must stand in the safe zone of the inactive one. You can tell which ones they'll be by seeing which one behaves differently right before: The first time, only two will stomp against the ground, and the third will stay still. The second time, the one with the shrieking face inside will be the safe one. The third time, only two of the S.D.IIIs' eyes will glow red, which is much harder to see and notice than the others.
So Zack remains safe...for now. Keep watching to see what happens next.
