How to Coil Split Humbuckers

Описание к видео How to Coil Split Humbuckers

In this video we demonstrate how to coil split a Seymour Duncan humbucker and show how it gets wired up to the volume control in a guitar circuit. Coil splitting is a simple and popular mod to do yourself using 4 conductor wire pickups. It sends the signal path of one coil to ground leaving just the other coil in operation.

The video features a simple circuit consisting of a volume push pull (used to split the coils), a jack socket and a Seymour Duncan humbucker.

After the pickup is added to the circuit, it gets plugged into an amp and tested.

Coil splitting is a simple mod which essentially grounds or shuts off one coil (half) of the pickup. This results in a single coil operating.

Pay attention however! The majority of 4 conductor pickup manufacturers use the same four colours (black, white, red and green) but they are rarely in the same order. For example, the hot signal wire on a Seymour Duncan humbucker is typically black, on a Gibson humbucker it is typically red and on a Fender humbucker it is typically green! Confused yet?
