Thinking of Divorcing a Narcissist? Brace yourself. This isn’t just a breakup, it’s psychological warfare disguised as a legal battle. If you’re not prepared, it can shatter your mental health, drain your finances, and erode your sense of self.

In this video, I’m sharing a trauma-informed survival checklist for divorcing a narcissist, based on what I teach my private clients.

Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ Don’t tell them you’re leaving yet: Once a narcissist senses you're pulling away, they go into sabotage mode. Leave quietly, with a plan in place.

2️⃣ Document everything: Every text, email, and voicemail. Keep a paper trail. Narcissists rewrite history and manipulate the narrative. Use communication apps like Our Family Wizard or Talking Parents that create legal records.

3️⃣ Hire a lawyer who understands narcissistic abuse: You need someone skilled in high-conflict dynamics, not someone who can be seduced by their charm or manipulated by their theatrics.

4️⃣ Expect a smear campaign: The moment you're no longer useful, you become a threat. They’ll twist the truth, spread lies, and try to destroy your credibility, especially with friends, family, and the legal system.

5️⃣ Use the Grey Rock method and firm boundaries: Show no emotion. Stay boring. Narcissists feed off drama and reaction. Pair calm, neutral responses with strong boundaries, especially if you have to keep communicating.

6️⃣ If you have kids, protect them emotionally: Narcissists will use your children as pawns. They’ll play the victim, guilt them, or turn them into emotional confidantes. Never badmouth the other parent. Instead, model emotional regulation. You’re not co-parenting, you’re counter-parenting.

7️⃣ Therapy isn’t optional: This process is exhausting and retraumatizing. You’ll doubt yourself, feel the trauma bond pulling you back, and face physical symptoms from the stress. Work with a therapist who is specifically trained in narcissistic abuse.

💔 You can’t think your way out of trauma. You have to feel your way through it. You’re not just leaving a person — you’re escaping a psychological prison.

Surround yourself with truth-tellers. Let go of the fantasy they’ll change. Take one brave step at a time.
