Hi Everyone,
This is an Irish Gaelic song, which translated into English means "Sleep My Child", or "Sleep My Love". It's a truly beautiful, old, very traditional number from Connemara, the western region of Ireland.
It's a lullaby that a mother would sing to her child to lull him or her to sleep, while at the same time driving out any Evil Spirit that might harm the child.
We've included an English translation below for those who are interested in the meaning of the Irish lyrics.
We hope you enjoy our presentation.
Thanks for watching!
Alora & Kyrie
Hó-bha-ín (Sleep My Child)
Sleep, sleep,
Sleep, my darling,
Sleep, my child,
And sleep till day,
Sleep, my child,
Sleep, my dearest one,
Sleep, my child,
And clear out you evil spirit evil spirit.
And your Mammy went off with blind Filipe
And on my life I don't know who he is!
Sleep, sleep,
Sleep, my darling,
Sleep, my child,
And sleep till day,
Sleep, my child,
Sleep, my dearest one,
Sleep, my child,
And clear out you evil spirit evil spirit.
And the priest's horse,
Is in the garden of Sean the Blacksmith,
If you don't put her out,
She'll trash it.
Sleep, sleep,
Sleep, my darling,
Sleep, my child,
And sleep till day,
Sleep, my child,
Sleep, my dearest one,
Sleep, my child,
And clear out you evil spirit evil spirit.
