It was a tight window between last week’s video forecast and the approaching weekend swells, but those who were able to sneak in quick hitters to the area of the Triple Wrecks were mostly rewarded with an intense jig n’ pop (and chunk) bite on beefy yellowfin. Last weekend’s lousy offshore conditions last weekend were but a blip on the screen, as rest of this week’s Hudson to Baltimore NOAA Weather forecast looks good with 3 to 4’s every day through Monday and winds from 5 to 15 knots depending on the day. Location specifics are more difficult than usual to nail down this week with 183 boats competing for a $4 million purse in this week’s MidAtlantic Tournament out of Cape May and Ocean City, MD. A couple of recognizable tournament names make this week’s video report, with the tax man taking a huge “byte” out of a monster marlin and the bigeye sharpies back at the scales to prove that those giant eyeballs are out there in the mix. We’re in the heart of the doormat season at the Jersey Shore right now, with a few “personal best” fish registered in this week’s report including a 12-pound, 14-ounce flukeasaurus that tapes out at 31 inches long and 14 inches across. The one-tautog limit this month has jetty jocks back in the thick of things, while kingfish and fluke in the surf offer a reminder to casters to bring the coolers & ice. More sheepshead in the mix, and the time for inshore/nearshore mahi is definitely upon us.
