Pattaya has become Thailand’s world-class beach destination since the late 1950s. Millions of travelers, from the US to Europe, from China to ASEAN, flocked into this amazing beach town because of its variety of entertainment and year-round sunshine. But when we talk about “Pattaya Beach”, we mostly think it is a crowded beach and not as pleasant as some other beaches. But well, now Pattaya Beach is different. It has changed for the better.

“Pattaya Beach” is about 3 kilometers long. It links North Pattaya, Central Pattaya, and South Pattaya together. Now, with a great vision of Pattaya City, the beach landscape has been improved with nice palm trees and larger beach space, so that visitors can enjoy their time on the beach more. Some people even compare this large space to Miami Beach, but I think both have their own charms. For me, Pattaya Beach is now more beautiful than ever, especially during sunset. If you stay in a hotel by the beach like I do, sipping some drinks while watching the stunning sunset is a recommended thing to do.

For local people, Bang Saen Beach in Chonburi province has been one of the most popular beaches for over half a century as it is only one-hour drive from Bangkok. Along the beach, there are local food stalls selling Som-tum Kai Yang or Papaya Salad and Grilled Yellow Chicken which is a signature dish here. Also, with great seafood available nearby, local people love hanging out on the beach with their friends and families. Nowadays, Bang Saen Beach area is well managed and is a great recreational point before exploring other parts of Chonburi province.

Khao Sam Muk viewpoint has just become a new landmark of Chonburi province. It is located on a cliff with a great panoramic view of the Gulf of Thailand. Around this area, there are lots of monkeys as well as local restaurants. There are some new great places to enjoy your meal with a nice view.

In the same area lies an old community called Ang Sila which produces the famous “Krok and Sak” or ““Mortar and Pestle”, stone product we use to cook Thai food, mainly chili paste. Both sides of the main road in Ang Sila are lined with many shops selling same products. The special thing is that the products are hand-made. There are 2 main materials used – Ang Sila stone which is creamy white and has best quality and normal granite stone. Angsila stone is getting rare now, making its price go up as much as 10 times that of granite stone.

Formerly called "Saphan Hin or the Stone Bridge", Ang Sila Fish Market was built in the reign of King Rama IV. It is now used as the quay for fishing boats. A large variety of fresh and dried seafood are sold here with affordable prices.
