This is the gaming footage of Doom wad "Quantum Strike" playing with Doom mod "Guncaster" and other mod combinations on GZDoom 4.7.1.

"Quantum Strike" is a set of 3 hard, colorful Boom-format maps made by Spectre01, the Final Release was upped in 2017. The player has to proceed through dead exits and that's because "Quantum Strike" was originally designed to be played from a Pistol Start.
The gameplay is purely action-based with simple progression and generally high monster density.
The notorious custom monster "Afrit" from Scythe 2 also made its appearance in this wad that it seems to make the combat even more challenging for the purists to grind.
UV is meant to challenge "good at Doom" individuals and masochists who don't mind dying repeatedly.
HMP should be more fun/reasonable and HNTR more laid back.


How did I miss this for so long? Well, it's better later than never. I saw people suggesting Russian Overkill for this kind of slaughter-ish wads in the live stream last weekend, so I decided to run it with my all-time favorite DOOM mod Guncaster instead.

MAP01 is somewhat tedious. The custom monster "Afrit" a.k.a. flying baron that nobody likes had made its appearance on the very first map. The menacing "teleporting Cyberdemon" also joined the party in the latter part there. Fortunately, I got "the mask" early which grants me to cast the amplified spells earlier.

MAP02 also has some tough fights at the beginning and the latter part of the game. Though Philosopher helps a lot for making some more dosh here and there paired with buffed "Skypunch". The early access of the gauntlet "Masters of Pain" means I could perform weapon&spell combo more efficiently. Since Guncaster 3.888b update, it now unlocks the feature to perform faster weapon swap and cancel the lengthy reload animation/spell casting delay at any time, and it's the funniest thing in my eyes.

MAP03 - Quantum Strike 99x9. An epic slaughter map that tortures so many purists is here. It's this map that force me to ditch the custom monster packs due to the performance issue (it was still laggy in some of the latter part though). The beefy BFGish spell - Apocalypse again shines whilst annihilating swarms. If I didn't cast Prism Laser and some big guns combo the progress while encountering the swarms in the 2nd last arena fight might go smoother. I got myself to have some fun with Cyberdemon squad in the end.


MAP04 is a gimmick from Counter-Strike. Though what really makes me excited is the track. DWANGO5 MAP01 brought back so many good old memories for me. The original one was still there, I just revamped it with the remix version.
