Tale of Vineetha: Mother of Aruna and Garuda

Vineetha is the mother of Aruna and Garuda. She is the daughter of Prajapati Daksha and married Kashyapa along with her sisters, including her elder sister Kadru. Both were Kashyapa's wives and tended to his needs. Kashyapa, pleased, offered each a boon. Kadru desired a thousand valiant sons. Vinata, influenced by Kadru, requested just two sons but more powerful and brighter than Kadru's. Kashyapa granted their wishes. During pregnancy, he advised care for their children before leaving for penance.

In the Mahabharata, Vinata's impatience led to Aruna's premature birth. Aruna cursed Vinata to consequent enslavement to Kadru, also predicting her eventual liberation by another powerful son. Aruna then ascended as Surya's charioteer. When Garuda, the second son, was born, he found Vinata enslaved. Overcoming celestial beings in a formidable quest, Garuda liberated his mother. His remarkable feat earned him a boon from Vishnu, becoming his mount.
