Описание к видео Gutenberg Prehistoric Settlements and Castle in Liechtenstein

During our drive through Switzerland, my son expressed a strong desire to make a stop in Liechtenstein. I saw this as a wonderful opportunity to explore an ancient settlement and prehistoric site, nestled in the shadow of a 10th-century castle. This intriguing locale is known as the "Gutenberg Prehistoric Settlements," a megalithic site situated within the village of Balzers.

Our visit coincided with the delightful sound of church bells emanating from a charming nearby church. Unfortunately, we were unable to venture inside the old castle, but we did have the chance to roam its grounds, all while being treated to breathtaking vistas from the valley below, with the majestic mountains enveloping us in their grandeur.

When viewing the smaller hill crowned with vineyards, we couldn't help but notice its uncanny resemblance to an ancient mound, possibly a prehistoric burial mound or tumulus dating back to the Stone Age. Who knows what secrets may lie beneath the surface? Just not sure I’d want to partake in drinking the wine from that vine!

Nevertheless, our road-trip and journey through this historically rich region left an indelible impression on us that anywhere in God's world are layers of history waiting to be explored and appreciated.

"Looking like a set from a movie, Gutenberg Castle in Liechtenstein sits atop a steep hill above the small town of Balzers.
Together with Vaduz Castle – the residence of the country’s ruling Prince – it is one of only two of the principality’s five castles that have not fallen into ruin.
The 70m-high hill on which the castle stands provides a natural defensive point above the flat lands of the surrounding valley of the River Rhine. Archaeologists have found traces of human settlement here dating back to the Stone Age.” Source: https://www.robinratchford.com/2019/1...

“The archaeological site on Gutenberg hill is situated in Balzers (Liechtenstein). Gutenberg is a 70 m high rock outcop. Because of the topological advantage of the hill, the site was continuously inhabitated since the Neolithic, as shown by finds from the Rössen Culture (ca. 3000 BC).

Other important finds are the Celtic bronze figures (ca. 2nd-1rst century BC), which include iconic animal figures (boar and deer) as well as a warrior deity ("Mars Alator" or "Mars von Gutenberg").” Source:

It appears this prehistoric and historical site has nothing to do with Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of printing or better said, moving type.
