CB750 Primary Chain Check | Setting Points & Valve Clearances | Honda CB750K Bitsa Build | Part 5

In this video, I check the Primary Chain for wear, then set the points gap and timing along with resetting the valve clearances.

Tools I used:
Crows Foot Spanner Set: http://ebay.us/pILeuM
Digital Vernier Caliper: http://ebay.us/Ty6Haf
Feeler Gauge: http://ebay.us/WYrdGX

The Primary Chain lives in the heart of the engine and takes the drive from the crankshaft to the gearbox. On a SOHC Honda 750 like this one, it is a duplex chain and has a tensioner to take up any wear.

To check it I have to remove the sump plate then measure the amount that the tensioner has moved using a vernier calliper. I use a new to me tool, a crows foot spanner, which I have seen used by another YouTube channel, Heidi and Franny’s Garage.

If the measurement gets to 70mm then the manual says the chain should be replaced. Which is quite a big job. This one is at 66mm, and as I believe it starts at 65mm shows that it is in good condition.

I also set the points gap and make sure the spark is arriving at the right point against the timing marks. I then set the valve clearances.

I am getting this engine ready for a first start after a long (probably 30 year) layup. There is a lot to do and I have split it over a few videos so that they are not too long.
