Guiding Symptoms. 1. The strongest characteristic calling for Colocynth is TERRIBLE COLIC WITH AGONISING PAIN in abdomen compelling the patient to bend double . Relief is obtained by MOTION and HARD PRESSURE and the motion is kept up steadily by the patient while the pain lasts. Colic may occur by itself or with dysentery, cholera, etc. 2. Neuralgic affection and rheumatic troubles. Dr. Hughes quotes Bahr as saying that Colocynth is useful in rheumatic colic and Plumbum in neuralgic colic , 3. Rheumatic pains affecting the joints are much aggravated by motion and better by rest and pressure. 4. Worse from 4.9 p.m. , is another characteristic of Colocynth. 5. Shooting pain like lightning shocks down the whole limb, left hip, left thigh, left knee and the popliteal fossa. Crampy pain in the thigh as though screwed in a vice. The patient lies upon the affected side to 6. Vertigo on quickly turning the head with confusion and compressive pain in the orbit. Complaints are caused by -ANGER AND INDIGNATION ( Staph . , Bry . , Cham . ) . 10. Ailments from . Anger, indignation, mortification, vexation and exposure to cold get relief.
Particulars. Headache. Causation : Anger with indignation and mortification, vexation, taking cheese, suppressed menses and exposure to cold. Location : Headache is normally felt in the frontal region . Character of pain : There is pressive and burning pain in the frontal region with soreness of scalp. Modalities: Headache is worse by stooping, lying on back, anger and indignation. Better by pressure and by bending head forward . Concomitants: Confusion and compressive pain in orbit; vertigo on quickly turning the head. Vertigo. Causation : Anger, indignation, mortification, vexation suppressed menses and exposure to cold. Character: There is VERTIGO ON QUICKLY TURNING the HEAD, especially to the left, as if he would fall, with confusion and compressive pain in the orbit. Dullness and giddiness at the beginning of colic accompaned by a compressive frontal headache.

COLOCYNTHIS Colic . Causation : Anger with indignation, vexation, taking cheese, exposure to cold and suppressed menses. Location : Colicky Pain is felt in the whole abdomen . Character of pain : There is terrible agonising pain in the abdomen , compelling the patient to bend double pain is violent and gripping type . Abdomen is very sensitive to touch. Pains come in paroxysms; become very severe every few minutes . The patient twists and turns to get relief . Modalities : Aggravation by eating and drinking , by taking cheese and by touch . Amelioration : By bending double , motion , bending forward , hard pressure and discharge of flatus . Concomitants : Colicky pain may be attended with neuralgia headache of violent nature with cutting and boring pain in the head. Dysentery. Causation : Anger with indignation, vexation and taking cheese. Character of stool : here is frequent excessive urging to stool, with sensation as if rectum and anus were weakened. Urge for stool is renewed after taking least food and drink . Stool is foamy , sour , containing mucus and blood , with tenesmus . Character of pain : There is gripping , crampy , agonising pain in the abdomen , compelling the patient to bend forward for relief . Cramp in abdomen , especially at night , relieved by eructation . Feeling of emptiness in the stomach , tearing pains which come from different parts of the chest and abdomen and concentrate in pit of stomach. Pain in groin and in both sides of abdomen . Modality : Pain is relieved by pressure , bending forward and eructation .. Concomitants : Painful swelling of haemorrhoids ; paralysis of the sphincter. Headache, nausea and vomiting with bitter disgusting taste in the mouth Sciatica. For Left sided sciatica, Colocynth is a royal remedy. There is crampy pain in the hip, as though screwedin a vice. The pain is of shooting type, like lightning shocks extends down the whole limb, left hip, left thigh, left knee and into popliteal fossa. Patient wants to lie on the affected side apparently to get relief. Modality : Relief by pressure and lying on affected side. General Modalities. Aggravation: Anger, indignation, mortification, touch, any attempt to eat and drink, by motion, evening and night. Amelioration: Bending double, hard pressure, violent exercise, warmth and discharge of flatus. |
